FAQs

What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that focuses on the whole body. It uses hands-on techniques to improve mobility, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural healing processes.

What conditions can an osteopath help with?
Osteopaths commonly treat back and neck pain, headaches, sports injuries, joint issues, postural concerns, and muscle tension. We also work with athletes and active individuals to improve performance and reduce injury risk.

Do I need a referral to see an osteopath?
No referral is needed. You can book directly with us, although some patients are referred by their GP, allied health professional, or coach.

What should I expect in my first appointment?
Your first session includes a detailed discussion about your health history, a physical assessment, and a treatment plan tailored to your goals. Treatment often begins in the first session.

What techniques do osteopaths use?
Treatment may include soft tissue massage, joint mobilisations, stretching, exercise prescription, and rehabilitation strategies. Everything is adapted to your comfort level and needs.

How long are appointments?
Initial consultations are typically 45–60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are usually 30–45 minutes depending on the nature of your treatment plan.

Is osteopathy safe?
Yes. Osteopathy is a safe and evidence-based form of treatment when provided by a qualified practitioner. We always take a thorough history to ensure your care is appropriate.

Can osteopathy help athletes?
Yes. We work with athletes at all levels, including professional golfers on the LPGA Tour. Our approach combines treatment, strength and conditioning, and injury prevention strategies to help you perform at your best.

Does private health insurance cover osteopathy?
Most private health funds in Australia provide rebates for osteopathy, depending on your level of cover. We have HICAPS available for on-the-spot claims.

What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable clothing you can move in, such as gym or activewear, is ideal.

How many treatments will I need?
This varies depending on your condition and goals. Some patients feel better after 1-2 sessions, while others benefit from a longer treatment and rehabilitation plan.

Can osteopathy help with chronic pain?
Yes. Osteopathy can play an important role in managing chronic pain by improving mobility, reducing muscle tension, and supporting long-term self-management strategies.

Do you only treat athletes?
No. While we have a special interest in high performance sport, we treat people from all walks of life, from office workers and parents to retirees and weekend warriors.
